2010 Olympic Medals Are Made From Old Electronics
The winning designs for Vancouver's 2010 Olympic medals have been revealed: the gold, silver, and bronze medals will all be made from melted-down electronics.
Canadian designer Corrine Hunt's medals are laser-etched, so no two are the same. The orca-whale themed pieces also feature an undulating design meant to invoke the Vancouver landscape.
The Vancouver Olympics made a smart choice in deciding to use precious metals from old electronics. By salvaging medal materials from old products, the Olympic committee is saving perfectly good gold, silver, and bronze from ending up in landfills. Because it makes no sense to mine for new gold when a single junked PC has more of the stuff in it than 17 tons of ore. And if the medals are promoted well, they could bring awareness to the cause of recycled scrap. With the entire world watching what happens at the Olympic games, there is no better venue to promote such an important--and easy-to-implement--solution to electronics recycling.

Through The Trees - Low Shoulder
all alone in a empty room
nothing left but the memory's
of whennn
i had my best friend
and i don't know how we ended up here
i don't know but it's never been so clear
we made a mistake dear
and i see the broken glass infront of me
i see your shadow hanging over me
and your face i can see
through the tree's
i will find you
i will heal
the ruins left inside you
cause im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
until im set free
go quiet through the tree's
and i remember how we used to talk
about the places we go we were off
and all that we were gonna find
and i remember wathcing our seeds grow
and how you cried when the first leave show
the love was pouring for your eyes
so can you see
the branches hanging over me
can you see
the love you left inside of me
and my face
can you see
through the tree's
i will find you
i will heal
the ruins left inside you
cause im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
until im set free
go quiet through the tree's
cause your not coming back
and your not coming back
noooooooooooooooooooooo
noooooooooooooooooooooo
nooo your not coming back
your not coming back
and take my breath
as your own
and take my eye's to guide you home
cause im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
and im still here
cause im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
and im still here
cuz im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
im still here breathing now
and im still here
and your not coming back
im still here breathing now
and your not coming back
im still here breathing now
cause your not coming back
im still here breathing now
until im set free
go quiet through the tree's

Oyu Tolgoi project, Mongolia
About the "Oyu Tolgoi" project in the Gobi Desert, southern Mongolia. It will be one of the world's largest copper and gold mines when it comes on stream (currently planned for 2010).
Update: Mongolia's government is going to sign a key investment agreement for the $4 billion Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine on Tuesday, Oct. 6, a spokesman for Mongolia's president said Saturday. "On Tuesday will be the signing ceremony. This day is the best day to do a big job," the spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires, referring to the Buddhist calendar. Mongolia is rich in a range of resources, including coal, gold, iron ore, zinc and uranium, and the agreement for Oyu Tolgoi will act as a blueprint for billions of dollars of investment into the impoverished country that shares a border with China. Oyu Tolgoi's owner, Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN) and joint-venture partner Rio Tinto PLC (RTP) have been waiting for years to sign an investment framework, spelling out taxation and government involvement for the mine, set to produce 450,000 metric tons of copper annually with a mine life of 45 years. Rio currently holds a 9.9% stake in Canada-based Ivanhoe, with an option to raise that to just over 45%.
